SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA
(unbuilt)

This project was a proposal to the City of Scottsdale, Arizona to develop a 5,650 square foot, triangular shaped lot, which for years was considered “un-buildable”. The program called for two loft-style, condominium townhouses with all modern amenities. Each townhouse contains a double-height living and dining area, one bedroom, one loft, two full bathrooms, a kitchen, balconies front and back, and a large roof terrace. Each residence has a garage and can park three cars in tandem.

Each townhome is oriented toward the property line it abuts, which creates a shared private courtyard in the front of the property containing an outdoor fireplace and fountain. The large deck overhangs and fabric canopy located on the rooftop provide shade on sunny Arizona days. The material palette is in a desert range of colors and includes ground face block walls with split-face accents, slate paving, colorful cement plaster with strong reveal joints, corten steel metal panels and standing seam metal roofing. Painted steel railings, gates, and trellises provide accents along with the aluminum clad wood windows and doors. Most exterior materials are duplicated on the interior. The living rooms are designed with large sliding doors, which when opened; further blur the line between inside and outside.
